Jira Import

How to import your Jira project issues into ProdPad

The Jira import feature allows you to easily import your project issues from Jira into ProdPad and is compatible with both Jira Full Sync Cloud and Data Center/Server. When you trigger a Jira import, the integration will look at what issue types are mapped through Ideas and User Stories and find the Issues in your Jira account that match that mapping. It will then import those Issues and create them as Ideas and User Stories in your ProdPad account.

How the import works

The Jira import works by checking the mapping of the Ideas and User stories set in the Jira Full Sync integration. For example, if you map Ideas to Epics and User Stories to Stories, the import will check the integration for that mapping and import any Epics as Ideas into your ProdPad Account. When the import checks for Stories in Jira, those Stories will be linked to the Idea in ProdPad as a User Story, providing they are linked to an Epic in Jira. If there isn't a parent Epic in Jira for the Story, then they won't be imported into ProdPad as a User Story.

    Current Jira import limitations:

  • Tags won't be included in the Jira import.

There are two different ways to start the Jira import process. The first way is to click the Start import and activate button on the final step of setting up a Jira Full Sync integration.

Once you click this button, the integration will become active and the Jira import process will begin looking at what issue types are mapped in the integration and import them into ProdPad. You'll see the below confirmation message that the importing process has started, and an email will be sent to you once the process is complete.

The second way to import your Jira project issues into ProdPad is to use the import feature in the Ideas list, You can find this option by clicking the Import button on the top right-hand side of the page followed by Import from Jira. It should be noted that this option will only appear in the dropdown menu once a Jira Full Sync integration has been set up and activated. Once you click the Import from Jira button, you'll be presented with the integration selection screen. From here, you can select which integration you'd like to import your Jira project issues from. Once you've selected the integration you'd like to use, click the blue Next button. (A quick side note here, the blue Start Import button at the bottom of the slide-out menu won't be clickable until you complete the next step).

From here, you now have an overview of the Jira project you'd like to import from, followed by the issue types and mapping for Ideas and User Stories. You can go back to the integration and make changes to the mapping if needed before starting the import process, but this will edit the active integration. Alternatively, you could set up a new integration specifically for the Jira import.

Once you're happy with the project selection, issue types and mapping options, click the Start Import button to begin the import process. The Jira import confirmation message will appear, and we will send you an email as soon as the import is complete.
