Use the Linear integration to connect discovery in ProdPad with delivery in Linear. This integration lets you push ProdPad Initiatives, Ideas, and User Stories to Linear, map fields between the two tools, and sync Linear status changes back to ProdPad.
How to set up a Linear integration
- Step 1: Create the integration
- Step 2: Connect your Linear account
- Step 3: Select your Linear team or project
- Step 4: Enable syncing with ProdPad
- Step 5: Map Initiative fields to Linear fields
- Step 6: Map Idea fields to Linear fields
- Step 7: Map User Story fields to Linear fields
- Step 8: Map Linear statuses to ProdPad Workflow stages
- Step 9: Sharing an integration
How to use the integration
Important!
The Linear integration is currently in beta and is only available to enabled beta accounts on MV2 and Enterprise plans.
Step 1: Create the integration
Click on your Account name at the top left-hand side of the navigation bar, then select Integrations. In the Development section of the Integration Gallery, choose Linear and click Set up.

Enter a name for your Linear integration, then click Next.

Step 2: Connect your Linear account
Click Connect to Linear. You’ll be taken through Linear’s OAuth flow, where you can authorize ProdPad to connect to your Linear account.
Once the connection is successful, you’ll automatically move to the next step.

Note: Linear uses OAuth authentication, so you do not need to enter a URL or API token.
Step 3: Select your Linear team or project
Choose the Linear team that ProdPad should push work to. This field is required.
After selecting a team, you can optionally choose a Linear project. If you do not select a project, pushed Ideas will be created under the selected team and will appear in the team backlog.
Note: If your Linear account does not have any teams, you’ll need to connect with an account that has at least one team before continuing.
Step 4: Enable syncing with ProdPad
Choose which ProdPad resources you want to sync with Linear. You can enable syncing for:
- ProdPad Initiatives
- ProdPad Ideas
- ProdPad User Stories
By default, Ideas are enabled for syncing. You must enable at least one record type before continuing.
Default mappings are:
- A ProdPad Initiative = Linear Project or Milestone
- A ProdPad Idea = Linear Issue
- A ProdPad User Story = Linear Sub-issue
If you selected a Linear project in the previous step, Initiatives can only be mapped to Linear Milestones.

Step 5: Map Initiative fields to Linear fields
If Initiatives are enabled, define how ProdPad Initiative fields map to Linear fields. The first mapping row is required and cannot be deleted. By default, the Initiative title maps to the Linear Project or Milestone name.Use + Add mapping to add additional field mappings. Click Next when finished.

Step 6: Map Idea fields to Linear fields
If Ideas are enabled, define how ProdPad Idea fields map to Linear Issue fields. The first mapping row is required and cannot be deleted. By default, the Idea title maps to the Linear Issue title.
You can map fields such as description, notes, specs, tags, designs, and attachments where supported.
Use + Add mapping to add additional field mappings. Click Next when finished.

Step 7: Map User Story fields to Linear fields
If User Stories are enabled, define how ProdPad User Story fields map to Linear Sub-issue fields. The first mapping row is required and cannot be deleted. By default, the User Story title maps to the Linear Sub-issue title.
You can map User Story title, description, and acceptance criteria to Linear fields.
Step 8: Map Linear statuses to ProdPad Workflow stages
Configure how Linear statuses map to ProdPad Workflow stages. This allows status changes made in Linear to sync back to ProdPad.
Only Ideas and User Stories are included in status mapping. Initiatives do not have status fields in ProdPad.
Note: Since Initiatives don't have status fields in ProdPad, workflow changes in Linear won't sync back.
Once your mappings are complete, click Activate to enable the integration.
Using the Linear integration
Pushing from ProdPad to Linear
Once activated, Linear will be available as a push destination for enabled resources. Depending on your setup, you can push Initiatives, Ideas, and User Stories from ProdPad to Linear.
Pushing an Initiative from ProdPad to Linear
Open the Initiative canvas, scroll to the Integrations section, and click Push. Choose your Linear integration as the destination.

Depending on your setup, the Initiative will be created in Linear as a Project or Milestone.
Pushing an Idea from ProdPad to Linear
In the Ideas list, open the Idea canvas and click Push. Choose your Linear integration as the destination.
The Idea will be created as a Linear Issue in the selected Linear team. If you selected a Linear project during setup, the Issue will be created in that project. If no project was selected, the Issue will appear in the team backlog.
If User Stories are mapped, you’ll see an Include user stories checkbox in the Push to Linear slideout. Selecting this will create Linear Sub-issues linked to the parent Linear Issue.
Links to the created Linear items will appear in the Integrations section of the Idea in ProdPad.
Pushing User Stories from ProdPad to Linear
If User Stories are enabled and mapped, User Stories can be pushed to Linear as Sub-issues. Sub-issues are linked to the parent Linear Issue created from the ProdPad Idea.
Status syncing from Linear to ProdPad
When an Idea or User Story has been pushed to Linear, mapped Linear status changes can sync back to ProdPad and update the relevant Workflow stage.
If a pushed Idea is in a ProdPad Workflow stage that has not been mapped to a Linear status, the Linear Issue will be created in the default backlog status.
Only status changes are synced back from Linear. Other Idea or User Story fields will not be modified by Linear status sync.
Reauthorizing Linear
If your Linear authorization is revoked or expires, the integration will appear as Not authorized. You’ll need to reauthorize the integration before pushing or syncing can continue.
Open the Linear integration and follow the prompt to reconnect your Linear account.
Deleting a Linear integration
To delete a Linear integration, open the integration section and select Delete in the '...' menu next to the integration.
Once deleted, Linear will no longer appear as a push destination, and background sync will stop running for that integration.
Sharing an integration
Working as a team? No problem! You can set your Linear integration to teamwide, allowing you to share your setup with other users in your account. This allows the wider team to use the integration as needed. Learn more in Enabling Team-Wide Integrations.
Top Tip
Want to connect multiple Linear teams or projects? Repeat the setup steps above to create additional Linear integrations.
